IDEAL Conference 2021

We are pleased to announce the IDEAL 2021 conference on April 15-16 2021. We are looking forward to this interactive, virtual event and hope you will be able to attend.

The IDEAL2021 Virtual Congress 15-16 April will bring together clinicians and researchers from all over the world. We will discuss the latest research methodology and developments for evaluating new surgical interventions and medical devices in a variety of clinical specialties. The program will include live plenary sessions, workshops, sandpit sessions and selected presentations from submitted abstracts.

The format of the conference is entirely online. It is possible you might have questions in relation to the online format. Here are the answers to the most common questions. See the video above as well for a tour of the online environment.

When does the conference take place?

The conference will take place on the 15th and 16th of April from 1:30 PM until 6:00 PM. All times are CEST. For further information, see:

Can I still register for the conference?

Yes, the registration remains open before the start of the conference on the 15th of April. You can register using the registration link on the IDEAL website:

How does the online conference work?

Due to the time zone differences, there is only a limited time to broadcast. Therefore all presentations have been recorded beforehand. Make sure you watch the presentations of the sessions you want to attend before the start of the conference. During the conference, the sessions are mainly meant for discussion. It will differ per session if you will need to prepare for it, you can find the details per session in the app.

Where can I create my personal program?

After registering, you will receive a mail by Yellenge with an invitation to create your personal program. You can view all the abstracts and videos of all the sessions there as well. Based on those abstracts and videos you can make a choice which sessions you wish to attend.

How do I change my personal program?

You can always change your program via de e-mail received by Yellenge.

What do I need to prepare for the conference?

It differs per session what you will need to prepare in advance. In the conference app, and on the website with all the abstracts and videos, all the material that you will have to prepare can be found.

Important: it is required to download the Zoom app on your laptop or mobile device before attending the conference.

How does the conference app work?

You can download the app via de app store. You can gain access to the app using the event code IDEAL21 and your personal login code. You can find your personal login code in the e-mail by Yellenge. In the app you can view your personal program and get more information about each sub-session. The materials needed to prepare are listed per sub-session. Last, you can edit your profile in the app as well. Make sure that your profile is set to visible if you want other participants to be able to see you. During the conference, the app will be used for interactions. You can ask questions and answer polls via the app.

How do I attend the conference?

One day before the start of the conference you will receive a link to the online area of the conference. In this online area you will find the livestream of the conference. You will be able to find the Zoom links of your chosen sub-sessions here as well.

How do the sub-sessions function during the conference?

Plenary sessions:

Live, no preparation needed.

Oral presentation sessions:

Due to the time zone differences, there is only a limited time to broadcast. Therefore all presentations have been recorded beforehand. Make sure you watch the presentations of the sessions you want to attend before the start of the conference. The sessions are mainly meant for discussion, therefore the authors will give a short recap of their presentation during the session, followed by discussion.

Issue panels & workshops:

Issue panels & workshops are organized by the authors. Some authors may want you to prepare something, while other authors might not. You can find the available materials in the app and on the website.

Poster session:

Prepare the posters. During the session you will have the opportunity to discuss with the authors.

Sandpit session:

Sandpit sessions are created to pitch new ideas. During the sandpit session, the authors will give a short presentation, followed by discussion with the audience. Extra material might be available beforehand. Please check the app for such materials.

Note: all sessions are presided by two moderators who will lead the discussion and monitor the time.

I am a plenary speaker, moderator, issue panel host or workshop host, how do I access my session?

As plenary speaker, moderator, issue panel host or workshop host you are allowed access to the session a few minutes before all other participants. A few hours before the start of the session you will receive a zoom link to access your session. You can watch the remainder of the conference via the live stream from Yellenge. You can share your screen via the share screen button in zoom. For last minute questions, there is a tech support session from 11 to 12 (CEST) on Thursday 15 april and Friday 16 April, for which you have received an invitation. ​
